Registering to Vote
Never voted before and not sure what to do? No worries. Have you moved and don’t remember what you need to do to register to vote? Not a problem. Here is your simple guide to voting in Minnesota.
To be eligible to vote in Minnesota:
Be a US citizen
Be at least 18 years old on election day (16- and 17-year-olds can pre-register)
A resident of Minnesota for 20 days
Not currently incarcerated for a felony
Not under a court order that takes away your right to vote

How Do I Register to Vote?
Register or update your registration online: https://mnvotes.sos.mn.gov/VoterRegistration/index
You will need a valid Minnesota Driver’s License, Minnesota ID number, or the last 4 digits of your social security number and an email address.
Register on paper: Do download a paper application: https://www.sos.mn.gov/elections-voting/register-to-vote/register-on-paper/
Note: pre-registration will need to be at least 20 days prior (Oct 13 or earlier) to the election for processing to be complete.
Need to register on the day you vote? No worries. Minnesota allows same day voter registration. You will need: a photo id like a driver’s license, US passport, US military ID, Tribal ID, Minnesota High School ID, or Minnesota University, College, or Technical ID.
If the address is current, that is all you will need.
If your photo ID does not have your current address, you will also need a utility bill, bank statement, rent or mortgage statement, or rental agreement with your current address that is 30 days or less old. If you are a college student, your most current fee statement will work.
